The Hotel Scheherazade offers a cruise on the Nile aboard one of these 2 types of boats: the smaller ‟Sandal” (left below) or the more substantial ‟Dahabiya” (right below).
Both boats have excellent quality services with similar routes and tours.
These traditional boats have been transformed into friendly and luxurious modes of transport for those who wish to explore the true Egypt at a peaceful and relaxing pace, while enjoying the Nile with splendid landscapes and testimonies of a past Eternal.
This sandal is a more intimate space. It has 3 cabins and sleeps 6 people. It is equipped with a kitchen, and delicious meals will be prepared by the chef. | This dahabiya sleeps 16 people. It comprises 6 cabins, and there are 2 suites with private balcony in the stern. The many dishes you will enjoy aboard are the work of an outstanding Egyptian cook. |
Itinerary and visits
1st day |
Arrive at the hotel Sheherazade and stay for 1 night. |
2nd day |
Transfer to Esna, then, after lunch on board, we will sail to El-Kab, the ancient city of Nekheb, whose existence dates back to the prehistoric times. You will find tombs and remains of temples, dating from the 18th dynasty, as well as remnants of a Coptic monastery wall. Returning to the boat, we sail to Edfu, where one of the most beautiful temples of all Egypt is located. It is a temple of the Ptolemaic era, dedicated to Horus. After dinner on board it is also possible to see the sound and light at Edfu temple |
3rd day |
We will sail to Gebel Silsila, a famous quarry, from where the stones of many of Egypt‘s fabulous monuments come. During this visit you will discover small temples and shrines built directly in the cliff, like the great Temple of Horemheb. In the evening we will offer you a barbecue here, outside the temple, at the river‘s edge. |
4th day |
We will sail to Kom Ombo. You will visit the temple there, dedicated to the crocodile god, Sobek, and to Horus the Elder. This temple is unique because of its double configuration. It is then possible at this stage of the stay to leave the cruise and return to Luxor by taxi, or to continue on board. |
5th day |
We will sail to Aswan to visit the city, including the famous High Dam, the unfinished obelisk and the beautiful island of Philae, with its temple dedicated to Isis. |
6th day |
Transfer in convoy to Abu Simbel, in order to see the fabulous and impressive temples of Ramses II and Nefertiti, moved and re-erected on higher ground from 1968 because of the construction of the Aswan Dam. This is why many temples are now standing on the banks of Lake Nasser. Return in convoy for dinner aboard your boat. |
7th day |
Return to Luxor for one more night at the hotel Sheherazade. |
